SALT LAKE SERVICE TRIP PROPOSAL

Abstract

I will be involved with a group of volunteers traveling up to Salt Lake to do service work for those whose circumstances are less fortunate.  This service will include working at a homeless shelter, volunteering at a health clinic, and serving food to those in need.  This project will be done over SUU’s spring break from March 11 through March 16 in the beginning of 2018.  The details and planning for the project will be arranged by the Rural Health Scholar leaders and I will be documenting the experience and assisting in the donation collecting.  By documenting this experience, I hope to raise an awareness for the need to participate in community service where ever you may be.

One reason I chose this service project was because of my personal experiences in Salt Lake City.  Whenever I visit Salt Lake I see so many people who are in major need physically, mentally and socially.  There are people everywhere that need help, however Salt Lake has a high density population of homeless people.  I also really enjoy helping improve the lives of others and providing them will a little bit of hope for the future.

Another reason for doing this project is that it will help me become the person I want to be.  I see so many good people around the world that give so freely without any praise or desire for recognition, and I want to become like them.  One thing that all of these incredible people have in common is their desire to serve their fellow men.  By serving the helpless and needy of Salt Lake I hope to become more selfless like these individuals.

This service trip will be an experience of a lifetime!

Planning the Trip: About

Goal

The main goal of this project is to raise an awareness for the needs of individuals in my community and to help others gain a desire to serve.

Larger Purpose

Another reason for doing this project is that it will help me become the person I want to be.  I see so many good people around the world that give so freely without any praise or desire for recognition, and I want more than anything to become like them.  One thing that all of these incredible people have in common is their desire to serve and help other people. By serving the helpless and needy of Salt Lake I hope to become more selfless and inspiring like these individuals.   This project will also provide me with the opportunity to learn leadership and organizational skills required for many occupations and organizations I would like to be a part of some day. Not only do I hope to get personal satisfaction from this project, but I also hope to raise an awareness of the need to serve in our communities wherever they may be.  There are so many people who have the ability to give and there are even more individuals who need some sort of help.

Planning the Trip: About

Deliverables and Differentiation

I will be documenting this experience by taking pictures at the volunteer sites when permitted by the organization.  These pictures and videos will include the volunteers actively engaged in serving food, helping the homeless, and other forms of volunteer work.  Afterwards, this collection of media will be combined and organized to make a presentation of the experience to promote community service.

By doing this project I hope to make a difference in my life, in the lives of the volunteers, and the in lives of those receiving the service.  One of my goals for this project is to help me become more engaged in the community and show people that I sincerely care for those around me. This is a very desirable trait to have especially in the workplace environment.  Employers love people that they know they can count on to help others in need, even if the needs in a workplace aren’t the same as a homeless individual. I also hope to raise an awareness of the need to engage in community service to the volunteers associated with this trip.  They will be then able to spread the good word of how much joy and satisfaction comes from serving others and seeing their needs met. This chain reaction of service will hopefully relieve some of the stress and burdens that so many families and individuals face daily. The Salt Lake service trip is going to help so many people in so many different ways.

Planning the Trip: About

Outcome

Everyone who participated in the trip had a great time serving others.  They recognized the need for serving others in this local community, which they will hopefully to in their own communities.  The participants gained an appreciation for the things that we take for granted everyday.  Everyone had a great experience which will affect the rest of their lives.
